Spare & duplicate car keys · Tampa, FL

Spare car keys in Tampa — duplicates made at your car from the key that works.

Down to one key, or need an extra car key made for another driver? A spare made from a key that still works is a smaller job than replacing the last one after it’s gone. On most makes and models, Zoom Locksmith comes to the car, cuts the duplicate, sets up its chip, buttons or smart-key electronics for your car and tests it with you. The quote is free — just read us the VIN.

  • Mobile — we come to the car
  • Keys cut & programmed on-site
  • Insured & background-checked

Why get a spare

Make the second key
before you need it.

A spare gets made at the car, starting from the key you already have. The van brings a cutter for traditional and laser-cut blades, a transponder programmer and blanks for most makes, so the copy is cut and set up on the same visit, wherever the car is parked.

Why bother while a key still works? Because with two keys, losing one means grabbing the other — not leaving the car where it sits.

Metal, chip, flip or push-to-start: for most cars, any key can have a spare, and only the work differs by type. Our guide can you copy a car key? walks through each one, and the programming step itself is covered under transponder key programming.

  • Spare chip keys, cut & programmed
  • Duplicate remote-head & flip keys — blade, chip and buttons
  • Extra push-to-start smart keys added to the car
  • Car key copies for older all-metal keys
  • Traditional & laser-cut blades
  • A second key for a used car that came with one
  • Fobik plug-in fobs on many Jeep, Dodge & Ram models
  • A key for every driver, on one visit

How it works

From one working key
to two that start the car.

  1. 01

    Tell us what you’re copying

The year, make and model — or the VIN — and what your key looks like: all metal, a plastic head, buttons, a flip blade or push-to-start. That’s enough for a free quote.

  2. 02

We meet you at the car

At home, at work or in a parking garage, a background-checked tech comes to the car. Bring your key, your photo ID and the car’s registration or title.

  3. 03

    Cut to match

We trace the spare’s blade from your key — or cut it to the car’s key code if yours is worn — and a smart key’s hidden emergency blade gets cut for your door.

  4. 04

    Programmed, then tested twice

Next, the spare is programmed to your car — its chip, its buttons or the smart key itself. Then we check the locks, the buttons and the start with both keys: the new one and yours.

Before you call

What to have ready

A spare starts from the key you have — plus proof the car is yours.

  • The key that works. Bring the car’s other keys and fobs as well: on some models, any key missing during programming stops working afterward.
  • Push-button start or a key you turn? Tell the dispatcher, along with the VIN or the year, make and model.
  • A photo ID in the same name as the registration or title — a spare opens and starts the car, so ownership is checked first.
  • For a company vehicle, the letter or work order that lets you authorize the key.

Pricing

What affects the price

A spare is one of the simpler car-key jobs, and it’s still quoted car by car. What moves the number:

  • Which key it is: all-metal, chip, remote-head, flip or push-to-start.
  • The year, make and model, which decide the blank and the programming.
  • A traditional or laser-cut blade.
  • How many spares you want made on the visit.

The dispatcher quotes the spare for free from the VIN, before anyone drives out. The quote is what you pay — no trip fee, no surprise charges.

Mobile across Tampa Bay

Made where
your car already is.

A programmed spare is set up with the car itself, so we come to it: a driveway in Riverview or FishHawk, an apartment lot near USF, a work lot in Plant City, a garage in St. Petersburg. In the city itself, start with our Tampa locksmith service page; the tiles below run from Valrico and Apollo Beach out to New Port Richey.

If the last key is already gone, you need an all-keys-lost replacement instead — see lost car key replacement. Keys locked inside the car? Our emergency locksmith line opens cars without damage, and our guide to keys locked in the car covers your other options.

FAQ

Quick answers about
spare car keys in Tampa.

Yes, for most cars. We trace the blade from your working key, program whatever the spare carries — a chip, buttons or smart-key electronics — to your car on the spot, and test both keys with you. Dealer-only models are the exception: for a Mercedes-Benz from 2015 on, only a Mercedes-Benz dealer can supply new keys. Read us the VIN and you’ll know on the call.

Usually, yes — but a worn key is a reason to work from the car’s key code rather than trace the worn blade, so the new key matches the locks instead of the wear. If the worn key has started sticking in the ignition, see ignition repair before it snaps.

At least one, so the car never hangs on a single key; a second on the same visit saves another trip. Some cars also make it easier to add keys later once you have two that work — many older Fords, for example (see Ford keys). Your owner’s manual will say if yours is one of them.

Yes. Send all the VINs when you call so the vehicles can be lined up for the same trip, and have the authorization letter or work order for each one.
