Mercedes-Benz changed how its keys are made, and the model year is the dividing line. On 2015 and newer models, new keys come only from the Mercedes-Benz dealer, made for that specific vehicle, and there’s no locksmith equipment that can program one — not ours, not anyone’s. If you’ve lost every key to a newer Mercedes, the dealer is the call to make. We’d rather tell you that on the phone than send a tech out for a job no locksmith can finish.
For 2014 and older, it’s a different story. Many Mercedes keys from those years are a fob with no blade showing: it slides into a slot in the dash and turns like a key, and some models start with a button instead. We make and program replacements for most of these models at the vehicle — C-Class, E-Class, the GLK and M-Class that came before the GLC and GLE, and Sprinter vans. Call with the VIN so we can confirm yours first.
Every Mercedes fob, old or new, hides an emergency blade: press the release and pull it out. It opens the driver’s door when the fob battery dies. On most Mercedes it won’t start the engine, but it gets you inside. If the blade is lost or snapped, we cut a new laser-cut blade for any year.
The GLC and GLE names arrived with the 2016 model year, so a new key for either one always comes from the dealer. Those owners still have options with us: lockouts, a new fob shell, a fresh battery and a new emergency blade.
