Sister brands

Hyundai and Kia —
the same kinds of keys.

Hyundai and Kia are sister brands, and their keys follow the same patterns. Many models that start with a key you turn use a flip key, with the blade folding into a fob that holds the chip and the lock buttons. Many newer Tucsons, Santa Fes, Sorentos, Sportages and Tellurides start with a push button and a smart key that hides an emergency blade. Some base models use a plain key with a chip.

Some Hyundai and Kia models that start with a key you turn were built without an engine immobilizer, and they became a common target for thieves. If someone went after yours, the ignition is often left broken. We repair it when it can be repaired, replace it when it can’t, and make keys to match so one key still runs the doors and the ignition.

Flip key falling apart? If the chip and the buttons inside still work, we can repair the flip or move the inside into a new shell instead of selling you a whole new key.

  • Hyundai & Kia flip keys
  • Push-to-start smart keys
  • Broken flip keys & cracked shells repaired
  • Theft-damaged ignitions repaired or replaced
  • All keys lost — a new key made at the car
  • Keys matched to a new ignition

    We come to the car

Apartment lot, driveway, work or campus — the tech drives to it. We ask for your ID and the registration before any key or ignition work.

  3. 03

    Fix or make the key

The key is repaired or cut and programmed, and a damaged ignition is repaired or replaced, right where the car is parked.

  4. 04

    Tested with you

Every key has to work the doors and start the car before we leave. Want a spare? Same visit, easiest time.

Before we arrive

What to have ready

For any Hyundai or Kia:

  • A photo ID with a name that matches the registration or title.
  • The registration or title for the car.
  • The VIN. It’s on the registration and the insurance card, on the dash at the base of the windshield on the driver’s side, and on the driver’s door-jamb sticker.
  • Whether it’s push-to-start, and what the ignition is doing if it was damaged.
  • Every key you still have, including a broken flip key — the inside may be reusable.

Pricing

What affects the price

Every Hyundai and Kia job is quoted on its own. What moves the number:

  • The kind of key: a flip key, a chip key or a push-to-start smart key.
  • Whether it’s a repair, a new key or both.
  • For a damaged ignition, whether it can be repaired or has to be replaced.
  • Whether a working key still exists — a spare is simpler than a key from scratch.
  • How many keys you want — a spare on the same visit saves a second trip.

Call with the VIN or the year and model and the dispatcher quotes the job up front, free. The quote is what you pay — no trip fee and no surprise charges at the curb.

Often not. If the chip and the buttons still work, we repair the flip or move the inside into a new shell, and cut the blade if it’s worn. If the electronics are damaged, we make and program a new key instead.
